Brill Babies
The
Brill Babies were conceived in the summer of 2003 by
three veterans of the Chicago music scene who all share an
unhealthy
obsession for finding, understanding and even attempting
to create the ‘perfect’ pop song. After spending
many a year in numerous bands, ranging stylistically from
Power Pop to Alternative to Heavy Metal, Frank Gradishar,
Gerry O’Keefe, and Scott Proce decided it was time
to embrace what would be the next logical step in their
progression. Once they turned the volume down and purged
their set list
of those tired songs performed by countless other cover
bands, the trio of musical visionaries realized that
something entirely
unique and long overdue was unfolding. Call it music
for music lovers.
Comprised of little more than vocals, a scaled-back drum
kit, bass, and an acoustic guitar, the Brill Babies sound
makes a loving nod to the cool jazz / lounge combos of
the 1950’s and 1960’s, yet still maintains
the beautiful simplicity of good old-fashioned rock and
roll. Frank, Gerry,
and Scott are as at home offering a rendition of a well-loved
Sinatra standard as they are in stripping a classic number
by the Police down to its very essence. Because of their
gleeful enthusiasm for the material they perform, the
Brill Babies live show can only be described as startlingly
entertaining
and contagious in the best sense of the word. Listen
and enjoy.
