Barry Cloyd

Bio Information
Barry Cloyd is a Midwestern based, touring singer/songwriter/guitarist who has spent a lifetime creating a performance style that weaves the genres of Celtic, Blues and Folk, into a unique blend all his own. A strong vocalist and multi-instrumentalist as well as a theatrical performer and historian, Barry delivers his music on a multitude of guitars and other stringed instruments. In addition, his stories of travels and history of the songs that he sings provide an added dimension to his performances.

His first CD release "The Wind and the Water" features all original music and some of Nashville's finest session musicians including members of Amy Grant’s, Stephen Stills’ and EmmyLou Harris’ bands. The follow-up CD’s are “After the Storm”, a Celtic/Traditional and original piece, and “Yuletide Fire”, an acoustic Christmas CD. Barry has co-written and produced 14 original musicals, written more than 230 songs, and has appeared in over 300 TV commercials and 70 industrial films. He is also a regular guest on regional radio and television programs. In addition, Barry is a co-founder of Prairie Folklore Theatre, a touring theatre company which creates and produces original musical theatre based on the history of the Celtic people, Native Americans and the Prairie States. He has also toured Ireland, England and Wales and played in such venues as Blarney Castle, The Rock of Cashel, Bru Boru and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin

Quote from Illinois Arts Council Poster
“ Central Illinois’ own Guitar Hero returns for a night of folksy/bluesy/Celtic music. Barry has become a regional legend with talent and showmanship that speaks volumes. A master of the six and twelve string guitar and dobro, he will be playing a mix of original tunes and his own powerful renditions of folk classics.”

Quote from Peoria Journal Star
“ Barry Cloyd plays his music, whether original songs or traditional folk, blues, Irish or popular songs, with a passion which always leaves the listener wanting more. He draws the audience in with instrumental and vocal work which are powerful and beautifully delivered.”

Quote from Brenda Story, Music and Theatre Critic, Central Illinois
“ Cloyd plays lead acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin and harmonica (in this show)…If you have ever heard Cloyd sing, you already know he is outstanding.”

Quote from “Dirty Linen” magazine, re: CD “The Wind and The Water”
“ This Illinois based songwriter has a rich, full voice that is perfectly suited to his story-based songs…Cloyd’s melodies are very radio friendly, and the production and the backing musicians are both first rate”.
