We are The Pleegs (www.thepleegs.com). We have performed throughout Chicago and the Chicagoland area from summer festivals, to private parties to local nightclubs.

Our Musical Style

We are a rock band influenced by John Mellencamp, Counting Crows, Van Morison, Bruce Springsteen, the BoDeans and a host of others. We have been compared to the same bands in style, lyrics and general sound.

Our Performance
We have more than 25 original songs, nine of which were featured on our first CD titled, "On Maple." We also create interesting cover renditions of popular songs from REM, Counting Crows and the like. Our original music contains simple melodies, encompasses compelling stories and keeps people entertained.

Our Fans
Our fan base ranges from ages 28 - 48 with the largest part of our audience between the ages 33 - 43. Our fans are drinkers that like to stay late, enjoy themselves and tip the staff tremendously. They follow us throughout the Chicagoland area religiously.

Our Gigs
We perform throughout Chicago and in 2005 will be playing marquee venues such as The Elbo Room (Chicago), Kenny's Tavern (Countryside), Molly Malone's (Forest Park) and Ballydoyle's (Downers Grove).

Our Commitment
• We will entertain you and keep your crowd dancing all night.
• We will promote YOUR location aggressively pre- and postperformance
(we even like to give away gifts from your establishment during our show as a way to promote you, not us).
• We are respectful to your patrons and your way of doing business.

Our Band
(l to r)
Jack - Lead vocal, guitars
Ryan - Bass guitar, vocals
Willy - Percussion, vocal
Tom - Lead guitar, vocals

Our Name
In the Afrikaans language, the word "pleeg" means to act, perform. Our previous band name was in use by a heavy metal band that put heavy-metal legal pressure on us to change the name. So we searched for a new name and stumbled across one that represents what we do. Pleeg fit. Plus, it was the only URL that wasn't taken. So now we're "The Pleegs."

You've got to play inside before you can play outside...

PRESS RELEASE

Pleegs Will Shake Up Ballydoyle Pub This Saturday On the strength of their recent live shows, fast-rising rockers The Pleegs have been invited to perform all night this Saturday (9:00 pm to 1:00 am) at Ballydoyle Irish Pub and Restaurant, 5157 Main Street in Downers Grove, midway between Maple Avenue and the Burlington tracks. It will be one of the last dates on their current Midwest tour, which features original songs from their current CD, “On Maple.

On April 26, the foursome from Western Springs drew one of the largest crowds ever seen on a weeknight at The Elbo Room, one of Chicago’s leading live-music clubs. As a result, they are scheduled to play The Elbo Room again on July 16.

The Pleegs’ powerful, guitar-driven style is influenced by REM, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and other rockers whose sounds are timeless, not trendy.

In less than two years as a group, The Pleegs have attracted a loyal following and strong buzz from music-industry insiders. Their music consistently gets audiences up and dancing, and they enhance their shows with giveaways of CDs, t-shirts and other crowd-pleasers.
Self-deprecating humor seems to be another reason for their success. Jack Honar, the band’s lead singer, notes, “No one’s ever called us ‘pretty-boy rock stars’ and I doubt they ever will. We just want to grab people with that gritty, pulse-pounding style of rock that we grew up with and still love.”

This summer The Pleegs will begin recording a second CD of original songs. Honar and drummer Willy Steele write most of the music and lyrics, with contributions from lead guitarist Tom Hickey and bassist Ryan Morrison. Later in the year, their tour will include stops in Cancun, Mexico and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
